Make your Family Room FEEL like a Family Room

We've all been in those houses that are so impeccable and immaculate you're afraid to sit down, let alone touch anything. And while some of us may envy the look of those family rooms, we certainly don't envy the feel. The trick to creating a showstopping family room is to make a room that looks great, but also feels great. After all, you want a place your family can feel at home and friends can feel welcome, but also a place that expresses who you are with style and personality. Keep reading for some easy tips and suggestions on ways you can update your family room, but keep it feeling fresh and friendly.

  • Make a Move - Pulling furniture away from the wall, moving the sofa out, etc. instantly gives the room a focus.

  •  Fluff, Fluff, Fluff - Decorative throw pillows can make all the difference in the world when it comes to updating a room and still keeping it friendly. Bright bold colors or pillows with creative patterns can lighten up a solid colored sofa and open up a room.
  •  Introduce Color - A plain white, or neutral color might seem like a safe and versatile pick for a family room wall, but the truth is, it does nothing to define or enliven a room. Pick a color you're passionate about and coordinate the rest of the room around that color, or make it the focal point of the room. If you're nervous about introducing a bold color, then consider only painting one or two sides of the wall that color and keeping the rest a neutral color.

  •  Bring on the Flowers - Perk up a room with a bright display of flowers. Make sure to display the flowers in an equally vibrant vase for double the effect.

  •  Floor Patterns - Add visual interest to a room with patterned rugs.

  •  Lovely Lamps - When shopping for new lighting fixtures, choose a lamp that is pretty to look at whether it's on or off.
