Remedies for a Rainy Day - Beat the Blues!

Remedies for a Rainy Day - Beat the Blues!

Well it's starting to feel a little bit like Spring! Unfortunately even though the weather has been warming up recently, we all know that the weather during this time of year can be a bit unpredictable and we're bound to have few more wet and rainy days before it warms up for good. So, just in case you're in need of some rainy day activities to keep the kids from wrecking havoc, check out all of the suggestions below!

Indoor Treasure Hunt
Kids never tire of a treasure hunt. Have your little ones dress up as pirates to really get into the game. Hide toys or treats around the house and set them free to search. If you really want to take it to the next level, draw a map of where each treasure is hidden.

 Start a Book Club!
Curl up with a good book, or ten. Need suggestions? Here are a few of our favorite reading lists:

  • Where the Sidewalk Ends - Shel Silverstein
  • Corduroy - Don Freeman
  • The Very Hungy Catepillar - Eric Carle
  • Goodnight Moon - Margaret Wise Brown
  • Madeline - Ludwig Bemelmans
  • Good Dog Carl - Alexandra Day

Build a Box Car!
Ask your local grocery store for empty boxes from the loading dock. Then have the kids "build" a race car or a truck. Then bust out the colored paper and the markers and deck it out! After your new masterpiece is complete have the kids hope in and start dreaming of all the places they could go! Safari, jungle, mountain...the adventures are limitless!

Fashion Show
Stage a fashion show! Have each family member draw the name of another from a hat. Then, either have each family member dress up as the person they've chosen or become said person's stylist for the runway — whichever you prefer.
Break out the Baker's Hat!
If all else fails, break out the cookie cutters and confectionary sugar. Kids will be captivated by the prospect of the treats ahead, and really, what better time to crank up the oven than a dreary, damp day? Opt for a recipe that requires decorating and you'll kill even more time :)

Indoor Tent
Need we say more about this? We all know how to do it, simply pull out the blankets and chairs and get started on your fabulous indoor fort! Guaranteed to be a hit with the kiddos!

Indoor Scuba Session
A surefire way to put a smile on the kids' faces is to get them in their swimsuits and let them play in the tub with lots of bath toys!
